Stickhandling 1-2-3

Puck control and stickhandling is a fundamental skill that players must master in order to compete on an individual basis in game situations. It is also critical for team play because the team that can control the puck usually wins games.

Preliminary results from the Colorado Hockey Institute 2007 National Coaches Survey indicate that 64% of coaches surveyed feel their players from last season need to improve their stickhandling ability.

Get a jump start on mastering your skill in an off-ice environment. This clinic will be focused on skill development in the following areas:

  • Proper use of hands, arms and stick
  • Developing the heads up feel
  • Using the toe
  • Developing reach
  • Movement and puck control
  • Fakes and moves
  • Fun stickhandling games

Participants will complete this clinic equipped with drills that will allow them to continue mastering their stickhandling skills at home. View some clinic demonstration photos.

This is an outdoor clinic which requires the participants to arrive with following equipment: Running shoes (with laces tied), hockey gloves, hockey stick, helmet with full face protection. All players should protect themselves with sunscreen prior to arriving and should bring their own water.

The Tanks Park in Highlands Ranch

The Tanks Park is located at the corner of Broadway and Wildcat Reserve Parkway in Highlands Ranch. The in-line rink has full boards and there are bleachers from which parents can watch. The in-line rink is a smooth concrete surface which should be fairly kind on your stick. If you are concerned about excessive stick blade wear, bring an old stick for the sessions.

Proceed south on Broadway from C-470 and turn right when you reach Wildcat Reserve Parkway. The park is on your right hand side. Turn right onto Grayfeather Way to access the parking lot and walkway to the park.
